Who we are
We are a small circle of friends and, usually, academic associates. Most of our reviewers identify as solitary, eclectic witches. Others have a professional background in history, folklore, Fortean mysteries, and multi-cultural spirituality. Some of us are indie authors and freelance journalists.
Our editorial emphasis is practical magic and well-supported historical traditions, not religion.
Our website address is: https://newwitchcraftbooks.com.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
At the present time, this is an information site and we do not use contact forms. That may change in the future.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Who we share your data with
We do not actively share your data. As noted, some of the tools used to add content to this site and improve it may also include third-party tracking.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. Of course, you will need to provide us with proof that you have the rights to that data. We will not idly share our files with anyone.
You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Your contact information
You may contact us through this website by leaving a comment and asking us not to make it public. Please include verifiable contact information, such as your email address at a known publishing house, shop, event management service, or other business. If you are an author, please use an address that is at your own author domain name, such as [email protected] (dot com). We do not reply to other messages.

Like many websites, we use standard security software.
What data breach procedures we have in place
No security measures are foolproof. Should a breach take place, this site will be put in maintenance mode while we assess the issues.

We use Google Analytics and security software to analyze traffic patterns to our site.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
We do not automate anything except spam filtering.
Industry regulatory disclosure requirements
As reviewers, we sometimes receive review copies of books and other products, and occasionally services. We do not accept anything that requires a favorable review, or any review at all. Our reviews and recommendations are as unbiased as possible, but reflect the opinions of the person writing the review.
Many of our links are affiliate links. When you click on one of those links, we may earn a small commission for your visit or from any purchase you make.
Most advertising on this site is clearly marked. Assume that we were compensated for any ads on this site. But also remember that we maintain a strict code and standards for what you see on this site. If a product or service seems objectionable, please let us know.
As Amazon Associates, we may earn a small amount if you make a purchase from our links. Those of us who are authors earn royalties from our books, as well. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc, or its affiliates.
